Saturday, April 25th, 2009, with fewer volunteers than last year, three times the tonnage of trash was picked up and disposed of: 6,580 pounds of trash (3.29 tons!).
Obviously, we owe a lot of thanks to these volunteers who worked so hard and so effectively! The following list of volunteers is in order of sign-up: Lynda Kinney, Richard Kinney, Edwina Bonnell, Gilbert Neeley, Frances Stewart, Etta Stadler, Pam and Mark Younkin, Sheila Sutton, Paul Martin, William Farr, Brian Ross, Ray Parsons, Jean Roemer, Bob Fetty, Monte Tremont, Lesley Partite, Janet Sheets, Beth Law, Lura J. Shultz, Tammy Shultz, Sheila Kinney, Richard J. Kinney, Sr., Mark Weekley, Kenneth Moore, Joe Bunting, Richard Shultz, Marvin Dotson, Harold Curtis, Betty Curtis, Robert Rippeon, Roxanne Fritz, Brian Lipscomb, Ashley Hindsly, Mike Todd, Ernie Heitman, Josh Todd, Cindy Todd, Charlie Frye, Helen Moore, Ronnie Knight, Charlie Langfitt, Earl Daugherty, Harvey Randolph, R.O. Montgomery, John Beamer, Bob Beamer, Tammy Beamer.
Wabash, Downtown West Union, Central Station, Sunnyside, Smithburg, and Blockhouse were represented in teams. Congratulations!
Thank you to our Sponsors: Virginia Nicholson, who ‘stopped the presses’ whenever we needed to print the call for more volunteers, Missy Hinterer, who sent over coffee from West End Café, Mary Beth Cox, who sent cookies from Spurgeon Funeral Home, and Ralph Sprouse who sent donuts from 7-11.
With such a turn-out and such great results for the first two years of this wonderful program paid for by REAP, we are assured that we can make this an annual Fun Clean-up Day! The WV Make it Shine Program is part of Governor Manchin’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan initiative under the WVDEP. All of West Virginia’s volunteer-driven cleanup programs fall under REAP, which granted West Union this day of paid trucking provided by WV DOH, paid dump fees, free trash bags and gloves for the volunteers. Team Captains think we can do this yearly from 8AM to 11AM with our better organization.
Thanks to everyone for making this such a success!
